Bio
Olga Ovchinnikova is a contemporary artist originally from Russia, currently living and working in Montevideo, Uruguay. Her practice is centered on oil painting and combines figurative imagery with elements of surrealism, lowbrow art, and contemporary popular culture.
Before developing her independent artistic practice, she worked across commissioned painting, commercial visual projects, graphic design, and private commissions. In 2026, she began developing her first original body of work, drawing on imagery familiar to her since childhood and transforming it into psychologically charged scenes where humour, beauty, and anxiety coexist.
Her work explores how people adapt to uncertainty, instability, and the loss of control. Through idealized and recognizable visual symbols placed in unsettling situations, she examines resilience, psychological adaptation, and the ways in which an inner sense of support can persist when the external world becomes increasingly unstable.
